The Anti-Inflammatory Diet
Every year 900,000 Americans will die from heart disease, 500,000 from cancer, 200,000 from complications from diabetes, and 150,000 from stroke.  Over 1.6 million of us will die from diseases affected in some way by our diet.  Inflammation is at the root of many of these chronic health problems.  An anti-inflammatory diet can help us to prevent and slow down the progression of many of these types of illnesses.  At our office we can guide you to introduce an anti-inflammatory diet to your regimen to optimize your health.

The DASH Diet (Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension)
DASH stands for Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension.  It consists of a type of diet that has been found to help lower your blood pressure.  It is a diet low in animal and dairy fat, while rich in fruits and vegetables.  Following this diet can lower the systolic blood pressure by 11.6 mm Hg and the diastolic blood pressure by 5.3 mm Hg.  It also has an anti-inflammatory effect on our body and a positive effect on our bone strength.  We can guide you to start this diet to better contorl your blood pressure and improve your cardiovascular heath.

Glycemic Index and Glycemic Load Control
A review of the literature shows that the consumption of low glycemic food versus high glycemic food can positively affect many parameters associated with diabetes, cardiovascular disease, inflammation and cancer progression.  We can provide guidelines for patients on how to benefit from this diet at our practice.

Adverse Food Reactions & the Elimination Diet

The elimination diet can be used to determine whether or not certain foods are contributing factors to a patients symptoms.  If they are, they can also be used as a form of treatment.  We can guide you plan this elimination process to see if it affects your personal heath.
